We regret to inform our fans that LoCal Comfort is shutting its doors. Besides the private events we have scheduled, there will be no more low calorie comfort food. The demand for low calorie comfort food is lower than we need to be able to cover our costs.

The team will be revealing a new truck in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for updates.

Jenn, the owner and manager of LoCal Comfort, believes so much in the food from the truck that she is going on a Truck-only diet for 8 weeks!

From April 1, 2013 to May 26, 2013, save for one cheat meal a week, she is eating only truck food, truck leftovers, and the occasional possible new truck menu testing. The goal is to eat to her hearts content all day long for 8 weeks and still lose 10 pounds.

You spoke, we listened. Our biggest feedback was that people thought portions were too small. We understand that not all patrons are watching their calories, and those that aren’t should still be able to get a fulfilling meal at a good price. Those who are watching their calories can still get the same portion and price as before, now called “half size”, while larger appetites can now order double portioned “regular size”. We hope this works out better for everyone! The MyFitnessPal info should be updated by week’s end and be posted on the truck accordingly

Buffalo Chicken Salad Sandwich and Tomato Soup $7
Cubed chicken breast, greek yogurt ranch, buffalo sauce and celery between two toasted slices of Double Fiber whole wheat bread. Served alongside a cup of our Tomato Basil Soup.

Grilled Cheese with Tomato Basil Soup $5
American cheese, melted between two slices of Double Fiber whole wheat bread, served alongside 8oz of Tomato Basil soup. Vegetarian

Mac and Cheese $5 half size, $8.50 regular
High fiber penne, tossed and topped with our house-made creamy cheese sauce. Vegetarian.

Two cups of steamed broccoli, smothered with our house-made creamy cheese sauce. Vegetarian

*Shoyu Egg and Meat Rice Bowl $6 half size, $9 regular
Soy sauce egg and lean ground turkey with broccoli over brown rice.

Shoyu Egg Vegetarian Rice Bowl $6 half size, $9 regular
Grilled zucchini and eggplant with steamed broccoli and shoyu egg over brown rice. Served with shoyu sauce, garlic paprika sauce or peanut sauce. Vegetarian.

October 20, 2012
The perfect truck popped up on ebay. It looked like this.

October 26, 2012
After taking a trip to LA to take a closer look, I, Jennifer Lin, could not walk away. As the high bidder on Ebay, the truck is ours!

November 19, 2012
The truck gets delivered to San Jose. It’s too large for the commissaries. Oops. After an entire afternoon of stressful brainstorming, we get it parked in a storage facility until we find a place to park it permanently.

December 5, 2012
After checking commissaries, commercial parking lots and warehouse real estate listings, we find a location! it’s an engineering/builders/equipment sales industrial lot in Sunnyvale. The landlord is super nice and incredibly helpful.

December 10, 2012
We take the truck in to get the old wrap removed. Surprise! The people who sold the truck to the last guy painted over half of it with white latex house paint., half of which came off with the old latex wrap. The rest needed to be taken off by any means necessary, in order to have a successful wrap. The quote from the commercial truck painters to sand the truck and epoxy coat it is an additional $2,500. Already getting low on funds, I decide to do it myself. It looked like this:

December 12, 2012
The truck hasn’t started for the past week. I’ve been using truck jumpers and cables to get the engine going until the problem’s figured out. Turns out it was a bad alternator. Gabe (that’s him above) figures it out and gets it replaced quickly. Truck starts like new every time, now!

December 17, 2012
We pass our health inspection, and so does the park site! The inspector is pretty awesome, and decides to inspect the truck and the park site at the same time. She lets us slide on the signage requirements, temporarily, seeing as they ride directly on whether the park site is approved.

December 20-22, 2012
Spent 18 hours getting the paint off the truck. 5 hours of power washing to the point where I develop a mild case of carpal tunnel, and I lose feeling in my thumb for 3 weeks. (today was the first day of full feeling! yay!)., then heat gunning, metal putty knifing, sanding, and more power washing (not to mention hours of cleanup after). The truck looks much better!

December 27, 2012
The truck goes in for the wrap. Because of the odd placement of the holidays, it takes a little longer to get done than usual.

Also, the indiegogo campaign closes. The campaign raised $2,325, and featured our first photos of food. Here’s a sampling:
